Facilities & Accommodations

La Medicina

Nestled in the Amazon Jungle, located at the bottom entrance of the Cordillera Escalera National Park, La Medicina offers a unique opportunity to retreat into nature while still being able to provide modern facilities and accommodations. While on retreat here, it’s common to encounter friendly monkeys, beautiful bugs, loads of birds, and occasionally small mammals (if you are lucky!). There are plenty of paths to explore the Jungle safely, offering a chance to connect with nature, which helps retreat guests get into a connected state of mind to communicate with Ayahuasca. An abundance of Chacruna is growing along the paths, and one of the Jungle paths leads to a large Ayahuasca vine that’s been growing on the property for about a decade. There are also a variety of other Master Plants growing on the property, such as Chiric Sanango, Bobinsana, Patiquina Negra, Toe, Katawa, and many others. Our Ayahuasca retreat center is free of light and EMF pollution, and our facilities feature solar-powered lighting, hot showers, flush toilets, and spring-fed water systems.

Maloka

The Shipibo hold Ayahuasca ceremonies in a structure called a Maloka. At La Medicina, the Maloka is a circular hut with a coned top that offers a safe place to experience the medicine. Several bathrooms are attached, which can be quickly accessed during the ceremony.
Our ceremony space is built on an enclosed platform, limiting the number of critters that can enter. The music of the Jungle can be heard clearly from inside the Maloka. Still, at the same time, it offers protection from the elements, immersing you in the medicine of the harmonious sounds of the Jungle and the lullabies of the rain. If you are still on your psychedelic journey late into the night after the ceremony has officially closed, you can sleep inside the Maloka.

The Maloka is designed to facilitate the healing process and optimize the acoustics so the Maestro’s icaros can resonate strongly and be received no matter where you are sitting.

Chiloka

Built as the last addition to our structures at La Medicina, the chiloka is a mesh-enclosed space where retreat guests can relax and smoke Mapacho while still feeling immersed in the comforting sounds of the Jungle. It can be a refuge from the heat of the direct sunlight and bugs that may be active during certain times of the year. There is a dining table in the chiloka, so some guests choose to eat their meals in this space. You can also find a few mind puzzles, a chessboard, musical instruments, and beautifully crafted rocking chairs.

Flower Bath Area

Flower baths are a potent way to connect to the plant world. Shipibo healers believe that the aromatic plants used in flower baths attract plant spirits into people’s fields and provide healing during and outside of ceremonies. These flower baths are provided before every ceremony at La Medicina in a designated area with a beautiful mural depicting a vision of a Shipibo Maestro smoking his pipe amidst the jungle medicinal plants.

Rooms

At La Medicina, there are a variety of rooms to choose from, providing options for people with different tastes in accommodation. There are a couple of studios, single-occupancy rooms, double-occupancy rooms, and two eco-tambos for those seeking a truly traditional experience. Most rooms have a connected terrace so that guests can relax outside in their own space. All rooms, except the eco-tambos and two rooms located in Casa Nueva, have their own bathroom. Hammocks are provided for each room, with a place to hang them up and enjoy them.

Dining Area & Kitchen

The dining area consists of two intimate sections: one with a large table for guests who want to sit together and the other with two smaller tables for guests who need space to themselves the day after an intense ceremony. A small couch and an extensive curated library are also connected to the dining area. The library contains over 850 books on plant medicine, shamanism, eastern spiritual traditions, esoteric wisdom, philosophy, nutrition, crystals, and many other topics.

The kitchen, attached to the dining area, is compact, but it provides our cooks with enough space to create their magic – delicious gluten and dairy free meals for our guests and staff.
